CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY POLICY

 

Operating in a responsible and sustainable manner is important to FLR Spectron. We are committed to supporting not only our local community but the wider communities we operate in.  We pride ourselves in our continued journey to minimise our impact on the environment, to continually improve, invest in our people and to demonstrate to our customers and potential customers that we do so.

 

Putting People First

We have learnt that being a people-focused company is its own reward. We believe in giving something back, whether it’s to our staff, our customers or our community. Here are some of the projects and schemes we support.

 

Charities & Volunteering

We are proud to be able to support and be involved with several important charities, from nationally recognised organisations like The Royal Variety Golf Club Society and Young Epilepsy, to smaller local groups like BEAMS, Magpie Dance and Caribbean Social Forum.

In addition to our direct financial support, we often donate and contribute loan of our assets and services to good causes. Whether it’s donating our VIP suite at London’s O2 arena as a prize, or taking part in fundraising events as a team, we like to be connected with and directly contributing to the good causes that are important to us.

Give and Gain Day is the UK’s only national day of employee volunteering. Companies of all shapes and sizes support their community through volunteering. They help young people and vulnerable groups, budding entrepreneurs, charities and community organisations, to problem solve, develop skills, build confidence, maintain and expand their services

 

BEAMS

We have supported BEAMS in Hextable, Kent for several years, we have painted the garden play equipment, jet washed the play area, planted new plants and tidied up the garden.  Over the past two years it has progressed into two days a year, spring and autumn.  We also supply our telecoms and CCTV services and regularly donate tickets to our suite at The o2 Arena.  This brings so much joy to the children, their families and the staff at BEAMS whose Vision is to “be a leader in Kent transforming the lives of disabled children and young people so enabling greater independence and control of their lives and futures”.

 

Sevenoaks Powerchair Football Club

Towards the end of 2016 we were approached by an ex-employee whose son played for the team, enquiring if we would be interested in becoming the main sponsor for Sevenoaks Powerchair Football Team for three years.

Sevenoaks Powerchair Football club are a community powerchair football club for people with physical disabilities. Powerchair Football is a competitive team sport designed for people with physical disabilities. It is a 4 a side game, played indoors on a basketball court. Players use powered wheelchairs to attack, defend and score goals. Their current funding goal is to purchase new powerchairs for competitive use.

Until the start of the 2017 season, the powerchairs used for football were medical chairs adapted for football. Now, a powerchair designed specifically for football has been approved to use for competition. These chairs are more responsive and enable players to undertake the skills they want to do more quickly than before. They wish to purchase these chairs, in order to remain competitive in the league and to boost the ability of their players.

Throughout our time as a sponsor our staff led fundraising events have raised enough to purchase a new chair.  These have included a Sky Dive and 24-hour Table Tennis-athon.

 

Education

At FLR Spectron it is important to us that we give back to the community which is why we take pride in the provision academic development. We have an established relationship as Business Ambassadors with local schools through the Education Business Partnership scheme in Bromley. We are on hand to offer advice, guidance and sponsorship to young aspiring students as they seek to develop their skill sets towards a future career. Whether that be through work experience or workshops in local schools.

 

Apprenticeships

We take pride in offering aspiring young people the opportunity to develop their careers through a modern apprenticeship scheme. With market conditions making finding the right candidate for many roles difficult and the job market itself a hazardous place to navigate for the school or college leaver, an apprenticeship offers companies like ours the chance to mould the candidate around the role whilst providing the apprentice with the opportunity to learn real-world skills on the job.

FLR Spectron are proud to have been recognised for our contributions to the community, as well as our performance as an employer and a business through the multiple awards we have received. Being nominated by our peers as well as independent bodies heralding business values and aptitudes we share, and support is a significant honour we do not take lightly. Striving for excellence really is at the heart of everything we do, so we will always look for opportunities to improve as well as shine in the future.

 

Environmental Policy

Conscious of the planet and its limited resources, we constantly strive to reduce our energy consumption and emissions in each sector we operate in, specifically recognising our operations and activity, in terms of the effect on the environment. We adopt the best environmental policies and demand continuous improvements, proving our commitment to minimise our environmental impact. We measure our commitment through complying, as a minimum, with current legislation and, where possible, seeking to meet future legislative requirements before implementation.

  • Reducing our use of natural resources as far as practically possible.
  • Managing our operations to prevent pollution.
  • Purchasing products and services with environmental considerations taken into account.
  • Working with our customers and suppliers to help them meet their environmental obligations.
  • Ensuring all our employees are aware of our environmental policies and act in accordance with them at all times.
  • Setting appropriate targets and monitoring our operations to enable continual improvements in our environmental performance.

We are audited yearly and are independently assessed and have been awarded ISO 14001:2015 in recognition of our Environmental Management systems.
